About the seminar
LEO, the world's first business computer, that was built by J Lyons the caterer. The lecture will cover the business background to LEO’s development and how Lyons ended up manufacturing two further ranges of computers after LEO I. John will compare and contrast how LEO related to the “mainstream” developments from Ferranti, academia and research. He will also highlight some of the people involved and technical aspects.
The LEO Computers Society, in partnership with the Centre for Computing History in Cambridge, has recently been awarded over £100k by the Heritage Lottery Fund for a first phase project to tell the LEO story.
