About the seminar

Professor Dai Edwards was a key member of the Manchester University team that designed and built ATLAS between 1959 and 1962 in conjunction with Ferranti West Gorton and will describe the nature of the project, some of the problems encountered, and the main technical advances made some 50 years ago.

Background

This event precedes a Symposium on Atlas which will take place at The University of Manchester on 5th December 2012 to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Ferranti Atlas supercomputer (see www.cs.manchester.ac.uk/Atlas50) .
